<크라운 2.5L - 플라스틱 관점에서〉

다큐멘터리 사진가 맨디 바커의 <크라운 2.5L> 프로젝트는 플라스틱 재사용과 재활용에 관한 사진적 실천으로 이루어진다.  

바커는 가금류를 위한 급수 장치(Crown 2.5L Taiwan)와 전 세계 여덟 국가의 바다에서 회수한 플라스틱 부품들을 이용한 카메라 몸체, 그리고 중고 슈나이더 렌즈를 접합시켜 중형 카메라를 제작했다. 이 카메라는 초점을 병뚜껑과 장난감 자동차 바퀴를 이용하여 맞추게 되고 초점거리는 재활용 도마의 홈을 따라 움직이는 급수기로 조절된다. 

과거 인간의 손이 닿지 않았던 자연 서식지 핸더슨 섬의 현재 모습을 재활용 카메라로 촬영한 사진 이미지는 플라스틱이 떠 밀려와 쌓여버린 섬의 실체를 사진적으로 강조한다. 플라스틱 카메라의 불완전함은 사진 이미지를 적색 빛이 감도는 오염된 이미지로 재현하고, 이는 인간에게 되돌아올 플라스틱의 위협을 경고하는 상징성을 내포한다. 

〈CROWN 2.5L - From A Plastic Perspective〉

Documentary Photographer Mandy Barker explores one of the ways to recycle and reuse plastic, and this became part of her photographic process. 

The Camera is constructed from a marine debris chopping board, and plastics component recovered from 8 different countries and oceans around the world. Together with a second-hand Schneider lens, the camera takes images using medium format film. 'CROWN 2.5L Taiwan' and was recovered from on a nature reserve on the East coast of England, UK. To focus, a bottle cap and a toy car wheel are turned in unison, this operation moves the chicken feeder along the grooves of a recovered chopping board, allowing variable space and distance from the lens, Leaving the images ‘contaminated' with red. 

Reinforcing that Henderson, a once untouched natural habitat, is now a place which is impossible to ever clean up because of the returning tide of plastic, and symbolized by these images saturated in red, and representing a warning that should haunt us all. This is a significant achievement that a camera constructed from plastics was used to record its own unfortunate consequences on one of the remotest locations on the planet.
