창조주로서의 어머니

모성에 대한 모든 고정 관념은 나에게 어떤 위안도 제공하지 않는 지루하고 피할 수 없는 연설이다. 2000년에 임신을 한 이후로 나는 임신의 고통과 자존감 상실에 대한 두려움에 시달렸고, 어머니가 되는 동안 감각을 유지하기 위해 예술 창작을 시도했다. 

출산 전날인 2001년 처음으로 찍은 자화상을 시작으로 아들과 나는 이전의 '아들과 나' 사진 앞에서 함께 새로운 사진을 찍게 됐다. 우리는 공통된 경험을 했다. 이 어머니와 아들의 사진은 삶의 다른 단계에 겹쳐져 있고, 그로부터 우리는 하나의 독특한 공간으로 압축된 대화를 만들어냈다. 

가장 중요한 것은, 삶과 시간의 경과를 통해서 여성의 자기표현에 대한 많은 다양한 개념들이 전통적으로 모성을 지향해왔던 일방적이고 융통성 없는 고정 관념에 계속 도전할 수 있다는 것이다. 

The Mother as a Creator

All of stereotypes of Motherhood are for me a tedious, unavoidable harangue which offers me no consolation. Since getting pregnant in 2000, I had been burdened with pregnancy pains and the fear of losing my sense of self, and so I attempted to use art creation to preserve my sense of self during motherhood. 

    Starting from the first self-portrait taken in 2001 on the day before I was due to give birth, my son and I would take a new photo together in front of the previous formal 'my son and I' photo every time. We had a common life experience. These Mother and Son photos which at different stages of life are overlaid, and from which we created a dialogue compressed into one peculiar space. 

    Most importantly, it is through living and the passing of time that the many diverse notions of female self-representation can and will continue to challenge the one-sided and inflexible stereotypes which have traditionally been held towards Motherhood. 

영국 브라이튼 대학교에서 예술학 박사학위를 취득했고 ‘여성의 정체성’, ‘창조자 여성의 힘’과 ‘동시대 시각문화’ 등을 주제로 창작에 전념하고 있다. 2018년 중국의 저명잡지『人物』선정한 글로벌 25인 중 한 명이기도 하다. 

He received his PhD in Art from the University of Brighton, UK, and is dedicated to creating with themes such as 'Female Identity', 'The Power of Creator Women' and 'Contemporary Visual Culture'. He is also one of the top 25 global people selected by China's famous magazine 『Human』in 2018.
